ClearPath Diagnostics, the premier diagnostic pathology practice in upstate New York, has been providing cytopathology services for over 30 years. Our mission is to provide outstanding service with rapid turnaround and clear and concise results.
The experienced diagnostic staff of pathologists and cytotechnologists approaches each case confidently. On-going intramural and extramural continuing education, close collaboration between pathologists and cytotechnologists during diagnostic case review, and a thorough quality assurance program including biopsy to cytology correlation, help to reinforce our high standards.
Our laboratory has been proactive in evaluating technological advancements for the betterment of patient care. We were the first in the region to offer the revolutionary ThinPrep® Pap Test which has dramatically improved the accuracy of cervical cancer screening. This test remains the gold standard for Pap smear preparation and interpretation. In 2004, we were the first laboratory in upstate New York to incorporate the ThinPrep Imaging System, which uses state-of-the-art computerized image analysis to pre-screen all ThinPrep Pap smears before the case is screened by a cytotechnologist. This step in the screening process assists in the detection of abnormal cells.
In addition, we led the way in offering the Digene Hybrid Capture 2® test, which uses advanced DNA technology to test for HPV, the causative virus of cervical cancer. This test can be performed from the ThinPrep specimen vial, and is the only test that is FDA approved for this procedure.
We also offer testing for GC and Chlamydia (Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis) which can be done using the ThinPrep liquid Pap specimen that is sent for Pap cytologic analysis. This method allows us to provide up to four results (Pap, HPV, and GC/Chlamydia) from a single specimen. Services - Other Tests
In addition to excellence in Pap smear evaluation, our extensive experience with many other cytologic specimens adds another vital dimension to our service. We analyze cells from many different organs including breast and thyroid fine needle aspirations and urine specimens. Attention to every technical detail in the preparation of slides supplements diagnostic expertise. Our ThinPrep Pap test is an integral part of our Gynecologic Pathology service.
